Contractor had to build a suitable working platform to sustain a large DEMAG 2800 crawler crane with a 554kPa load, over a variable subgrade as low as 40kPa (2% CBR).
Instead, a Tensar Mechanically Stabilised Layer using multiple layers of Tensar InterAx geogrid reduced the platform thickness by approximately 31% compared to the non-stabilised design. The crane operated successfully, and the contractor saved hundreds of tonnes of fill and days of construction time.
