Expansive and soft subgrade proof rolled success with Tensar InterAx® geogrid for new subdivision in Maryborough
Constructed in 2025.
Challenging subgrade tested as low as 0.6% CBR, with swelling up to 8.7% for this new subdivision. Council initially preferred a traditional approach of either in-situ stabilisation or a thicker pavement to provide protection over the subgrade. The consultant wanted to explore geogrid as an alternative solution.
The consultant recommended a 395mm proof roll platform mechanically stabilised layer incorporating Tensar InterAx® geogrid. This new proof roll platform passed with 12mm deflection as originally predicted by Tensar’s design method and software. Tensar’s geogrid saved excavation costs with an efficient proof roll solution over such a challenging subgrade.
