TensarTech TW1-ME system saves retaining wall construction time and carbon in Dubai
The client needed to provide grade separation between a shared use pathway and a parallel roadway with footpath. To improve the environment and aesthetics, the client required the strip between the footpaths to be vegetated. The vegetated strip would need to rise 3.0m above the shared use path along its curved 66m length. To support and contain the raised strip, a retaining wall would be required. This needed to be visually attractive and compliment the surroundings. Construction work had to be completed without closing the road.
Tensar proposed the TensarTech TW1-ME system for the retaining wall. The wall could be built directly on the existing sand subsoil, without heavy lifting equipment, or the need for road closures. The flexibility of the system easily accommodated the curved plan and varying height. By selecting textured coloured blocks for the facing, the wall perfectly complimented the block paving. A topsoil layer was incorporated behind the wall to allow vegetation to establish, meeting the clients environmental and aesthetic needs.
• Construction time savings compared to alternative systems
• Reduced construction carbon compared to RC wall options
• No adjacent road closure required due to use of modular
components and no heavy lifting equipment
• Texture and colour perfectly complimented the adjacent
materials and met the client’s aesthetic requirements
