THE PROBLEM

CBR values of less than 2% required an engineered solution for the construction of an adoptable 5.5m wide housing estate road, with three separate drainage runs beneath.

THE SOLUTION

Tensar TriAxTM mechanically stabilised layers were used in two stages to allow initial access to site and then to help mitigate differential settlement over the drainage and sewer runs.

PROJECT DESCRIPTION

The initial layer of Tensar TriAx msl was designed for site access/running surface over very weak foundation soils and was designed for a short life to enable drainage trench works to be carried out by excavating through the working platform. The upper Tensar msl was designed to help mitigate differential settlement over drainage/weak foundation soils and to reduce overall construction thickness of capping required. The final construction needed to satisfy the local roads authority to enable public adoption.

Steve Baker of Taylor Wimpey commented ’’the site was proving  difficult for road construction and drainage installations due to the ground conditions and construction required during winter months.  We needed a cost effective and robust solution for which Tensar advised and delivered the engineered solution."
