THE PROBLEM

Approximately 40,000 m2 of face area of retaining walls and ramps ranging in height from 3 to 11 metres with various configurations of tiers and geometries had to be constructed to a very tight programme.

THE SOLUTION

The Tensartech TW1 Wall System consists of Tensar uniaxial geogrids connected with a unique high strength connector to the locally produced, attractive concrete modular facing block. Tensar International supplied a full design and supply service for these reinforced soil structures.

PROJECT DESCRIPTION

The Dubai Bypass is a major road network that links the Northern and Southern Emirates, diverting inter-emirate traffic, especially heavy trucks away from the congested main city of Dubai. The RTA (Road and Transport Authority) were particularly keen on having this road ready and serviceable in a limited amount of time so all of the construction work, including bridges and interchanges and associated ramps had to be completed to a very tight programme.

The project included bridges, interchanges and ramps which were all constructed within time. The Tensartech TW1 Wall System was used for all the 40,000m2 of wall face and structures which ranged in height from 3 to 11 metres. All the Tensar retaining structures were constructed over an 18 month period.  These also included a variety of architectural finishes which are aesthetically pleasing.
