THE PROBLEM
Split level supermarket site where a variety of retaining walls were required to divide land use and access areas. The project was constrained by tight timescales to ensure the new store was opened on time.
THE SOLUTION
TensarTech TW3 wall systems were supplied for three walls as part of an indemnified design and supply service from Tensar International Limited. The Tensar walls for this project comprised of a smooth concrete modular block face with aesthetically pleasing split faced corners to form attractive yet functional retaining walls.
PROJECT DESCRIPTION
TensarTech TW3 Wall Systems are BBA certified systems offering up to 120 years design life. 120m2 of retaining walls were installed with a maximum height of 3.5m over a linear length of 75m. Imported granular fill was placed and compacted behind the face reinforced with layers of Tensar uniaxial geogrid which were attached to the modular facing blocks using high efficiency mechanical connectors. The blocks are dry laid and placed by hand. No crane lift or temporary propping is necessary. The walls enabled the effective use of tight space throughout the site, with retaining walls used to form ramped vehicular access and divide split level areas.
