Modern engineered landfill sites need to not only be safely constructed, but also comply with prevailing regulations using environmentally sound, long-term solutions. 

The primary landfill applications

Tensar’s innovative systems have a number of applications within landfill construction. These are the main uses:

Landfill soil veneer stabilisation to resist sliding movement on slopes that are subject to temporary load from leachate drainage material, or as sloping capping systems to resist the weight of drainage material and topsoil cover

Landfill capacity expansion  (also known as ‘piggy-backing’) involves new landfill being placed over old waste, so the base liner must retain its integrity against the differential settlement of the old waste beneath it. Construction of steep-sided berms increase the usable volume.


Landfill liner support is needed when the substrate has a steep irregular surface profile, such as in former quarries, and creates a smooth profile for the liner system while maximising the usable volume. Steep reinforced soil bunds can also be built to form internal cell walls.
